Top 10 Kitchen Remodeling Trends

Kitchen remodelingIf you are looking to sell your house, you have probably heard the phrase “kitchens and baths sell a house.”  And of those two, the kitchen is the most important in this day and age.

If you are looking for ways to increase your chances of a homeowner buying your house, here is a list of the Top 10 kitchen remodeling trends from RISMedia based on recent survey results.

– Chef’s Stoves.  Professional-grade ranges are considered dream appliances.

– Eco-friendly features.  This can include eco-friendly appliances, but also items such as energy efficient windows, etc.

– Granite and Quartz countertops.  Granite is still the top choice, but Quartz is up and coming.  Quartz tops are more resistant to stains and scratches.  What’s not popular?  Tile.  And of course, formica wasn’t even on the list of top choices.

– Tile Backsplashes.  Tile is not a favored counter top surface, but when it comes to the backsplash it is the top choice.   A backsplash can date your kitchen, so be careful in your selection.

– Floors.  Hardwood floors, perhaps surprisingly for the kitchen, led the list.  Tiles are #2 here.  Linoleum is way down on the list — avoid it.

– Stainless Steel.  Stainless is still the most popular choice.  If you go with another color, choose white.

– Islands.  These are popular but not necessarily considered a “must.”.  Make sure the room is appropriate before you add any type of island.

– “Transitional” style.  This look blends traditional and contemporary and its popularity has increased substantially in the past year.

– White Cabinets.  People want their kitchens to be light, and nothing does that better than white or off-white.

– Gray color schemes.  Gray color schemes are 5 times more popular today than they were in oly 2010.  Amazing!

Regardless of what you do, be sure to keep it tasteful and and not get carried away with personalization — you want the house to appeal to a broad spectrum of buyers.
