Alabama Real Estate Market Trends has released their report on Birmingham real estate for the month of January 2012.
Home sales were up almost 8% versus January of 2011. That is also 10% higher than January 2010, although the increase was less than expected.
The average Days on Market (time it takes to sell) for used homes was 143, or a bit less than5 months. This indicates that well-priced houses are selling in less than 6 months. However, the high amount of houses for sale (“inventory”) indicates that sellers (including banks) are still holding out for higher prices.
